Cable Plant Design and RFP

As part of Sun’s Campus Initiative, engaged to assist with the Cable plant design and RFP process for a seven building, 4000 person campus. Structured Cabling standards were used as a baseline for design requirements. The design included single mode and multi-mode fiber connections, enhanced category 5 connections, and special laboratory requirements. Four of the buildings in the campus are connected via an underground backbone fiber and copper distribution ring. Diverse, redundant pathing between buildings was required and when complete, 3 million feet of communications cabling will be installed.

Incorporated end user security and other corporate requirements into the design. Once the design was approved by Sun Microsystems, a request for proposal was developed, responses reviewed and a vendor selected.

Analyzed WAN integration and planned for voice service to remote campus. Also responsible for providing the methodology for redundant routers, as well as analyzing business and educational directives to produce specific collision domain, addressing and Internet connectivity.
